A terror plot to assassinate Prime Minister Theresa May has been foiled, Sky's Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said: "It's the latest in a number of terror plots that police and MI5 believe they've foiled this year.
"It is in essence an extreme Islamist suicide plot against Downing Street."
Essentially police believe that the plan was to launch some sort of improvised explosive device at Downing Street and in the ensuing chaos attack and kill Theresa May, the Prime Minister.
Scotland Yard said: “Both men were remanded in custody to appear at Westminster magistrates court.”
The pair – Naa’imur Zakariyah Rahman, of North London, and Mohammed Aqib Imran, from south east Birmingham – were held on November 28.
It came during raids by officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command.
Tonight the London force said Rahman, aged 20, had been charged with preparing acts of terrorism as well as assisting Imran in terror planning.
Rahman was reportedly arrested while allegedly carrying two potential IEDs last week.
He was said to have been allegedly plotting to bomb the security gates at Downing Street with a device hidden in a bag.
The area is heavily populated by police and tourists seeing the sights of Whitehall.
He had allegedly planned to enter No.10 in a suicide vest and carrying pepper spray and a knife in a bid to kill the Prime Minister.
Police claim Imran tried to get a fake passport to reach Libya, it was reported.
Imran, 21, has been charged with preparing acts of terrorism.
It was reported that Rahman was allegedly discovered on the afternoon of November 28 with two "inert" IEDs in west London.
Police arrested Imran in Birmingham a short time later.
Both men are due to appear before magistrates tomorrow.
