Fusilier Lee Rigby of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers

Remembering the Fallen: on this day in 2013, Fusilier Lee Rigby was attacked and murdered by Islamic adherents near the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich. Both killers were apprehended after being shot by armed police who arrived on the scene; they were sentenced to life imprisonment, one given a whole life order and the other to serve at least 45 years. Fusilier Rigby, from Middleton, Greater Manchester, had been a drummer and machine-gunner in the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, and had served in Cyprus, Germany, and Afghanistan before becoming a recruiter and assisting with duties in the Tower of London. His mother asked that this photograph be used in this article. Lee was 25 years old and the father of a two-year-old son, Jack.

 

His family released this video, his mother saying that she wanted people to remember him as his family does:
