Private John Wilson died of wounds on 14 November 1917 and is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord (France). He was the son of James and Annie Wilson, of Wombleton, York. He was born in Wombleton (Kirbymoorside), enlisted Malton, and resided Wombleton. The photo of John Wilson kindly provided by Dennis Wilson, his nephew. The photo of his headstone in the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord cemetery was taken by Richard Roberts. The headstone is inscribed " "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS HE DIED THAT OTHERS MIGHT LIVE".
