Captain Thomas Clarke, Warrant Officer Class 2 Spencer Faulkner and Corporal James Walters, Army Air

Remembering the Fallen: on this day in 2014, five service personnel were killed when their Lynx Mk9A helicopter crashed in southern Afghanistan. They had been on a routine training mission when they crashed into a dried river bed known as "the bowling alley", in a valley in Kandahar province after going into a descent. The coroner called on the Ministry of Defence to review staffing levels and the strain they put on personnel, and also called for flight data recorders after concerns that a safety alarm had not sounded.

Captain Thomas Clarke, Army Air Corps, from Cowbridge in Wales, was 30 years old and married. Flight Lieutenant Rakesh Chauhan, Royal Air Force, from Birmingham, was 29 years old. Warrant Officer Class 2 Spencer Faulkner, Army Air Corps; from Burghfield Common, was 37 years old and married with two children.

Lance Corporal Oliver Thomas, Intelligence Corps, from Brecon, Powys, was 36 years old. Corporal James Walters, Army Air Corps, from Leedstown in Cornwall, was 34 years old and married with a daughter.
