Remembering the Fallen: on this day in 1994, Corporal Fergus Rennie, 22 SAS Regiment, The Parachute Regiment, was killed in action in Gorazde, Bosnia.
He had been part of a patrol of British soldiers who were serving as joint Commission Observers at a Bosnian Army location three kilometres north of the town.
In an exchange of gunfire with the Bosnian Serb forces, Corporal Rennie was shot by a sniper, and although airlifted by helicopter to Sarajevo, he could not be saved.
A fellow soldier who remembered him when he was a young private in D Company, 2nd Battalion The Wessex Regiment, said he was “daft a brush,” willing to try his hand at anything, and entirely reliable. Fergus, from Pangbourne in Berkshire, was 28 years old.
